Hertz Italy’s Selezione Italia collection lets customers rent Italian-made (from Fiat Chrysler brands) vehicles in Italy. As part of that collection, Hertz is partnering with Milan-based custom automaker Garage Italia to offer awesome bespoke Fiat 500 Jolly “Spiaggina” Icon-e cars for rent.
The original Fiat 500 Jolly was a warm-weather runabout with wicker seats, used mainly as a fun, basic driver for wealthy people with their yacht docked at Italian resorts. The new custom-built Icon-e versions have been retrofitted as RWD electric cars with a range, per Hertz, of around 75 miles. They will come in three trims — classic blue, Italian flag and (for the true Hertz aficionados) yellow and black — with matching rims and hand-woven natural rope seats.
Hertz customers can reserve the Fiat 500 Jolly “Spiaggina” Icon-e now by phone. While they will have a spectacular, Instagram ready and environmentally friendly time, they will miss out on the truest of Italian automotive experiences: cringing in the back seat of a Fiat Panda as your 80-year-old Italian driver rides bumpers, scythes through traffic and rounds blind corners at F1 speed.
Selezione Italia cars are available from airport locations in Florence, Milan, Rome, Turin, Venice and Sardinia as well as city and rail station locations. The collection also includes manual 500 Abarths and 124 Spiders, as well as the legendary Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio for those who want to embrace the autostrada with gusto.
Garage Italia works on a wide range of custom projects, including this stunning Fiat Multipla for the St. Regis Hotel in Rome. Here’s hoping for a retrofitted Fiat 124 sedan or Fiat 131 rally car.
