Time to make some room in your fantasy garage. Land Rover Defender restoration-mod experts East Coast Defender have completed “Project Neo,” a bad-ass military-style widebody Defender 110 custom build.
The Vulkan Grey Pearl paint in an eggshell finish provides a stunning, modern look that doesn’t feel out of place on this old-school SUV. A six-point external roll cage adds protection and boosts up the badass quotient. A Kahn Designs widebody, black checker plating and 20-inch Kahn Mondial Retro Wheels on 32-inch tires add to the appeal.
Project Neo will perform in a straight line, too. East Coast Defender swapped in a robust, reliable and potent GM 6.2-liter LS3 V8 crate engine producing 565 horsepower. A Borla Performance exhaust will enhance that engine’s sound even further.
While the outward appearance is aggressive, the interior seems quite comfortable. Project Neo comes with heated and ventilated Corbeau Racing seats in the front and middle rows, along with forward-facing jump seats in the very rear. It also has Apple CarPlay and wireless charging.
East Coast Defender asserts that Project Nero will be ideal for daily-driving, off-road getaways and any potential apocalypse. We could quibble with the hypothetical apocalypse part: A loud, sexy six-figure custom-built SUV would make one a tempting mark in an end-of-society scenario.
Alas, Project Neo was a custom build, so it will not be available for purchase. But ECD does have an LS-swapped Billet Silver Defender 110 available for immediate delivery for $160,000 if this has made the craving too strong to ignore.
