The All-New Cadillac XT6 Comes with a Bold Price Tag

When you take a look at the competition in the price range, the Cadillac XT6 is in for an uphill battle.

Cadillac officially priced the all-new XT6 SUV at $53,690, with a Premium trim coming in at $58,090. It’s in for an uphill battle.

Once it hits dealerships this spring, the Cadillac XT6 will compete with the Mercedes-Benz GLE ($56,200) and the well-established BMW X5 ($60,700). The more expensive Premium trim XT6 comes with AWD but the 310 horsepower 3.6-liter V6 is only engine available, no matter how you spec it. The similarly priced German SUVs come with more engine options, including more powerful six-cylinder options.

With the interior, arguably the most important part of any luxury car or SUV, the Premium XT6 promises to cut down on piano-black plastic and replace it with wood and chrome. Optional extras like the Enhanced Visibility and Technology Package add a little more value, but neither will be enough to sway buyers away from the Mercedes and BMW. Cadillac has a habit of comparing itself directly to the established order of luxury cars but falling short when it comes to the level of fit and finish of its peers.

Cadillac seems to be on an upswing in terms of form although the recent change in leadership and move back to Detroit could shake things up for the worst. Tumult never bodes well when a brand is trying to establish itself or restore former glory. With the CT6 sedan canceled, the XT6 could prove to be a pivotal vehicle for the American luxury brand.
