BrabusHaving Brabus tune a V12 Mercedes is like strapping a Howitzer cannon to Superman’s back. It just makes him that much meaner. For example, the 2012 Brabus Rocket 800, a pavement ripper just unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Based on the CLS sedan, the Rocket 800 uses the “standard” E V12 from the current Merc E-Class and tacks on a twin turbocharger, beefing up the already ample 5.5 liter displacement to a gorging 6.3 liters. Here’s where the “Rocket” and the “800” terms actually come to mean something. This Brabus sports an insane 800 horsepower and 811 pound feet of face warping torque, which amounts to a top speed of 230 mph and 0-62 in 3.7 seconds. Yeeowch. Do you really want cupholders? We think not. The suspension and brakes are all upgraded by Brabus and meant to do justice to the interplanetary power. To round out the beast within, the exterior has been upgraded with carbon fiber trim for increased air flow and roadholding, and it’s done tastefully enough to not be an eyesore but noticeable enough to not be mistaken for a basic CLS or even the AMG version. No word on pricing yet, but you can assume it will cost more than both your one bedroom condo and your rusting econobox parked outside.
