Last year, Airstream and REI Co-op collaborated on one of our favorite products of the year, the REI Co-op Special Edition Basecamp trailer. This year, the two brands are coming back for more with the REI Co-op Special Edition Basecamp 20X. The new trailer builds on the previous model, increasing the offerings and expanding to a 20-foot floor plan.

The trailer sleeps up to four people

The Airstream x REI Co-op Basecamp 20X sleeps up to four people with a convertible dinette area. A rear hatch allows for easy in-and-out gear access. The hatch also provides access to an in-floor cooler that can be used as wet gear storage.

It comes standard with the X package

The Airstream x REI Co-op Basecamp 20X comes standard with an off-road-ready X Package. This package includes a 3-inch suspension lift and Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires. The REI Co-op Basecamp 20X also has stainless steel front stone guards and an L-track storage system for bikes, kayaks and other outdoor gear.

It maintains an emphasis on sustainability

The Airstream x REI Co-op Basecamp 20X carries many of the earlier model’s sustainability features. It saves water with a recirculating water heater, a UV-LED water purification system and an available composting toilet. Larger holding tanks will let you stay off the grid for longer. Sustainable materials are used in construction. Buyers can also add a 360-watt solar package with a 200AH lithium-ion battery.

The Airstream x REI Co-op Basecamp 20X weighs 3,500 pounds. You’d have to factor in some leeway for extra gear, but it should be towable by many midsize SUVs and light trucks without requiring the most powerful towing trucks and SUVs on the market.
