As the last show on the calendar, the New York International Auto Show doesn’t tend to see the groundbreaking announcements that earlier events, like Geneva, get. However, there were one or two surprises this year and a few cars debuted with genuine fanfare, like the Toyota Corolla hatchback and the Lincoln Aviator. Both cars are loud and clear signals from two completely different companies looking to make a similar return to greatness. What’s exciting is that both the Aviator and the Corolla Hatchback look like initial successes — hopefully, they can follow up and deliver.

Most of the other big-ticket cars at the show were unveiled ahead of NYIAS, earlier in the year and late last year, and are making their North American debut. It’s easy to stroll through the Javits and see those cars as ‘old news,’ but what you really want to do is get up close and get a good look at them. Aside from a few headlining cars, the greatest aspects of NYIAS are the details — some hidden, demanding a keen eye and others proudly on display. These are the most beautiful details from the floor at NYIAS 2018.
