BMW was all set to unveil the new Z4 concept today, during Monterey Car Week, but someone at Bimmerfile.com beat them to it and leaked the images. That page has since been taken down, but Autocar picked it up, just in time. BMW need not worry though — it looks absolutely gorgeous.
Although this may just be a concept, the production Z4 has already been spotted testing around the Nürburgring, albeit with camouflage and much more toned down features. The concept has exaggerated side-sills and tail lights reminiscent of the 328 Hommage Concept from a few years back; its front spoiler is characteristically over-sculpted, as is the norm with most concept cars. That said, all the proportions are there for the makings of a beautiful sports car.
As for what’s underneath the gorgeously designed sheet metal, the Z4’s platform will be shared with the new Toyota Supra, as a result of the partnership between BMW and Toyota. The Z4, however, is expected to be powered by BMW’s new line of smaller turbocharged engines — the 248hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder and possibly the 335hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six from the M240i.
The official debut of the Z4 Concept is scheduled for later today. We’ll be sure to update you with any new information, as it comes in.
