Found: 4 Budget-Friendly Vintage BMW Coupes

Between the announcement of the all-new 8-Series and accompanying M8, the affordable, eco-friendly X2 city car and the M4 CS, BMW has been a bit all over the place with its product. One thing is for sure, though: the new 8-Series will be anything but affordable, not to mention the M8. The original 850i, when new, would be closing in on $200,000 in 2017 money, and you can bet the new one will find a similar price tag. So before you find out what the eye-watering price of the 2018 M8 will be, take a look at these budget-friendly coupes from the Bavarian marque — including one original 850i, for a relative bargain.

1991 BMW 850i

What we like: In 1991 a new BMW 850i had a base price of $90,000, or in today’s money, just over $160,000. That means this lightly driven (for being 25 years old) V12, for under $10,000, is an absolute bargain, even if you factor in the inevitable maintenance fees.
From the seller: Beautiful unrestored 12-cylinder hot rod-luxury touring car that drives awesome and needs absolutely nothing.

1988 BMW M6

What we like: Seeing as how the first- and second-generation M6s were separated by about 15 years, it’s no surprise they’re so incredibly different. But the first is the better of the two — simple, analog, beautiful. And this example, in a near-perfect gloss black paint, does the M6 lineage proud.
From the seller: This 1988 BMW M6 remained with its original owner in Princeton, New Jersey, until purchased by the seller in April 2015. Less than 1,800 E24 M6s were produced for North America.

What we like: If you have time and want a side project, this is the BMW coupe for you. This 2000CS is by no means perfect, but it’s just waiting to return to its former glory — the car that put BMW coupes on the map.

1990 BMW M3

What we like: As far as BMW coupes go, the E30 M3 one of the most coveted — as evidenced by its $20,000 price tag, despite its high mileage. But for the condition that this M3 is in, and the service it’s had, it might be worth it.
From the seller: Acquired by the seller in 2014, the car has since been stripped and refinished in the factory Alpine White II. Maintenance records are included in the sale and date back to the time of the original owner’s purchase in Illinois.

Euro 1985 BMW Baur 323i

What we like: As rare as it is unique, this not-quite-coupe, not-quite-convertible BMW is the riskiest pick of the bunch. Sure, its odometer may not be working and already showing decently high mileage, but for $520? Sounds like a load of fun.
From the seller: The previous owner had the car repainted from its factory silver to the current shade of blue and also gave the interior a black/blue refresh to match. This 323i is now being offered with recent service records and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
