The American West has had one of its most brutal fire seasons on record, with more than 7.5 million acres of land burned so far in 2020. Now, Ford’s new Bronco sub-brand and iconic outdoor gear manufacturer Filson are teaming up to assist and raise awareness for forest firefighting efforts.

Bronco and Filson collaborated on the Bronco + Filson Wildland Fire Rig concept — which, as the name would suggest, is a custom fire-fighting rig based on the new Ford Bronco. The base vehicle is a four-door with the off-roading Badlands trim and the Sasquatch package. It’s painted in classic U.S. Forest Service green, and loaded with Filson fabrics and accessories inside.
The Wildland Fire Rig features a heavy-duty custom-fabricated roof rack that can double as a firefighter lookout and hold a wide range of firefighting gear. The Bronco carries a full firefighting skid and a 50-gallon water tank and a high-pressure water pump. The top and rear cargo area divider are made from fireproof ripstop nylon, similar to the material used in Filson backpacks. The wheels, grille and roof rack also received a Cerakote ceramic coating for durability.

The rig also features some name brand off-roading accessories, including a Ford Performance modular bumper with a Warn winch and a Rigid LED light bar.
Ford’s newly created Bronco Wild Fund will donate two firefighting vehicles based on the Bronco Wildland Fire Rig concept. Bronco and Filson are also collaborating on a limited-edition line of outdoor gear sold on Filson’s website to benefit the National Forest Foundation’s reforestation programs and fire prevention awareness efforts.
