Heading to the outdoors and away from others is proving to be an extremely popular way of vacationing this year, what with the continued coronavirus pandemic. Still, regular camping has its issues; sleeping on the ground, for one thing. If you’re looking to get into the wilderness without shelling out for an exquisite but pricey camping trailer or camper van, you could invest in a rooftop tent.
And wouldn’t you know it: Colorado-based Roofnest has just launched a refreshed version of the Falcon rooftop tent, which will also be available as an XL model for those who need a little more space. (The XL model is 60 inches across versus the regular version’s 50-inch beam, though both have been extended out to 90 inches in length to better accommodate taller campers.) The tents sleep two (though the Falcon XL can squeeze three adults inside in a pinch), and feature an all-aluminum construction with an ultra-slim design.
The tents feature a redesigned rail system with brackets to accommodate awnings or additional gear. Optional crossbars can hold up to 100 pounds of gear when closed and 50 pounds when open. The interior also receives a new quilted ceiling lining for added quiet and temperature insulation, and a storage pocket made from elastic gear netting to make it easier to store items around the inside.
Pricing for Roofnest’s Falcon starts at $3,395, which you can pay with monthly installments using Bread. The Falcon XL model, which is 10 inches wider, starts at $3,495 —but you’ll have to wait for mid-August for it to be delivered to you.
