Clearly, car manufacturers are just as sick of hearing “they don’t make ’em like they used to” as everyone else is, because now Land Rover has announced it’s putting the Range Rover Series 1 back into production. Well, sort of.
The same Land Rover Classic team that restored and brought back a few classic Defenders through last year’s Land Rover Reborn Program are now setting to work setting to work on the new Range Rover Reborn project. The manufacturer’s elite team of restoration mechanics work with prospective buys to find the rarest and most sought-after Range Rover models, which include models with desirable chassis numbers, unique options, and limited-run paint jobs. Then they set about bringing the Range Rover back to factory spec using only classic Land Rover Parts, carbureted 3.5-liter V8 and all. One would hope the electric wiring will be better the second time around, though.
Sadly, Land Rover says the Range Rover Reborn project will only bring back 10 examples, the first of which (pictured above) you’ll be able to see at Salon Rétromobil later this month. One of these restored first generation Rangers will cost you just shy of $170,000, or about as much as a brand new 2017 5.0-liter V8 Supercharged SV Autobiography Dynamic. Worth it.
Oh, and if you want a Defender instead, feast your eyes on this.
But if You Want a Modern Range Rover…
