Found: Want an Affordable Vintage Porsche 911? Here’s Five

It may seem as if the vintage car bubble isn’t anywhere near bursting. Ferraris continue to go for astronomical auction prices, and Japanese and other Italian sports car prices have been on a steady incline for a few years now. But, if there is one car that’s seeing the sharpest rise in secondhand sales it’s the Porsche 911. Air-cooled models are leading the charge, but any version of an old 911, in good condition, can command a hefty price tag. Which is exactly why we did some digging to find a few examples of the rear-engined icon that are still on the affordable side. Whether you want a 911 to daily drive or to keep as an investment, these 911s are a good way into the market.

1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2

What we like: The bidding is extremely low on this particular Carrera 2, but with the immaculate condition it’s in, don’t expect that to last for too long. Depending on what the reserve is, this could make for one smart investment.
From the seller: This 1990 Porsche 911/964 Carrera 2 3.6–liter 247 Horsepower 5–speed manual is finished in marine blue metallic with linen gray leather seats.

1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Convertible

What we like: This Carrera convertible is something of a Franken-Porsche. It has a rebuilt 3.2–liter engine but factory bodywork from a 964 turbo. It certainly won’t pick up in value over the years, but that just means you can enjoy it that much more on the road.
From the seller: 1986 Porsche 911 Cabrio. This car was customized and turned into something of a hotrod. This Carrera has a built 3.2 and runs really well. As the photos show, a turbo 964–look body was fitted with factory metal parts.

1977 Porsche 911 Wide-Body Targa

What we like: If you’re not bothered by number matching and just want an exciting 911, here’s another example of mix-and-matched. The upgraded engine, body and tail are all period correct but, most importantly, are OEM. So it may be an ‘Outlaw’ Porshe, but atleast you know it’s all Porsche.
From the seller: If your not a Porsche purist, then this is your chance to own a unique 911. Some would call it a 911 Outlaw. Originally a 911S, converted to a wide body Turbo look in the late 80’s with all steel OEM Porsche parts.

1985 Porsche 911 Carrera

What we like: Speaking of daily drivers, this mid–’80s Carrera looks fantastic for having 141,000 miles on the clock. The service record provided also makes a good case for keeping that odometer spinning.
From the seller: This 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe is a well-kept driver finished in Guards Red over Champagne leather with factory sport seats. First sold in June 1985 at Pioneer Porsche-Audi in Denver, Colorado, it was purchased for the seller’s wife as a daily driver in 1999 at 116,800 miles.
