Outtakes: The Other 7 Cars We Loved At The New York Auto Show

Vintage cars and new speed machines are all on display at NYIAS — reason enough to pick up a couple tickets.

Starting today, the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) is open to the public. Visitors can ogle the latest cars from big manufacturers that will be going on sale within the next year or so. This year New York’s biggest reveals have, for the most part, been a lot of refreshed cars and a slew of new eco-friendly machines — somewhat mundane, but nevertheless important. However, it was the older and rarer stuff on display that truly got our hearts pounding — treats that our favorite automakers know we want to see (and that sometimes overshadow their latest reveals). If you happen to be in the New York area we highly recommend getting tickets and checking everything out before the show wraps up on April 3rd.

Every Generation of the Nissan Skyline GT-R

To celebrate Nissan’s “new” GT-R, they brought a handful of old ones. Every generation, from the original Skyline 2000GT-R from 1969 to the refreshed 2017 model is on display. It’s fantastic, unless you’re sensitive to the fact you won’t be able to import an R34 GT-R until 2024.

The Spyker C8 Preliator

Those mad geniuses at Spyker are back with the C8 Preliator, arguably one of the most striking car designs being sold new today. The Spyker was revealed not too long ago at Geneva, but considering only 50 will be made, NYIAS may be the only chance most people will get to see it in person.

Koenigsegg’s Hypercars

Koenigsegg dropped the mic on Geneva with the 1,500 horsepower Regera earlier this month and is now on display (along with the 1,360 horsepower One:1) at NYIAS.

The Best-Looking Car Ever Made

Like the Spyker, the Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale is a gorgeous machine built in very limited numbers (18 to be precise). Once again, NYIAS is a rare opportunity to see its striking details and voluptuous proportions in the metal.

The Best-Looking Volvo Ever Made

The Volvo P1800 is one of our favorite affordable vintage cars, and one of the finest cars in Volvo’s history. The company brought not one, but two examples along –rightfully displayed on pedestals.

The Acura NSX GT3

Acura is taking their new NSX racing here in the US with the GT3 version of its latest supercar. However, as per FIA regulations, the NSX GT3 will head to the track without its advanced hybrid system and AWD.

BMW M1

BMW’s big release this year was the M2, a smaller, more affordable M car reminiscent of the original E30 M3. But let’s not forget the first true M car, the M1. BMW sure hasn’t.
