Ram’s Most Extreme Off-Road Truck Could Be Back Sooner Than You Think

A new insider report suggests that an even more powerful version of Ram’s performance pickup is on the way.

Ram first took the fight to the fire-breathing Ford Raptor R with the release of the 702-horsepower Ram 1500 TRX back in 2021.

Unfortunately, as part of Stellantis’s push for lower emissions and more electrified options, the model didn’t stick around for long. The release of the 2024 Final Edition marked the last version of the performance pickup before Ram put it out to pasture.

Given Stellantis’s discontinuation of the Hemi engine at the time, it was unclear exactly how the model’s promised successor would take shape — especially considering the release of the RHO. However, Ram has since made an aggressive pivot to win back its fans, and the vaunted V8 is in the lineup once again.

Now, based on a new insider report, it sounds like the brand’s TRX will be making its return — and sooner than you think.

When will the next TRX arrive?

Back in April, Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis stated there would be 25 new product releases over the next 18 months. Since that time, the brand has made big moves, committing to NASCAR competition, reviving the Hemi V8 for the Ram 1500 and expanding the lineup with new Warlock and Black Express models.

According to a report from Mopar Insiders, “well-placed sources within the company” have not only confirmed that the TRX will indeed be making a comeback, but also that the truck’s production is expected to begin in late January 2026.

Seeing as many automakers are already unveiling their 2026 model year updates, it’s not unrealistic to expect an announcement in the coming months (or even weeks).

What engine will power the TRX?

Following a series of changes in Stellantis leadership last year, the vaunted Hemi V8 received a new lease on life.

Dodge fired the first shot with a Durango production extension, and newly minted Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis has wasted no time ensuring that the 5.7-liter V8 made its way back into the 1500 trucks. Moreover, Kuniskis is leading the charge for the reestablished SRT (Street Racing Technology division), so it’s clear that he has performance in his sights.

Other insider reports from sources within Ram have suggested that the upcoming TRX will be even more powerful than the outgoing model.

The TRX previously featured a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 under the hood, and other reports from Mopar Insiders suggest the forthcoming model is set to be even more powerful. In other words, it’s unlikely that the smaller 5.7-liter engine will take over upon the truck’s return.

After all, at the time of debut, the TRX put down an authoritative 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque courtesy of the 6.2-liter Hellcat engine. However, Ford was quick to one-up the truck with the release of its even more powerful 720-horsepower Raptor R in 2025. Seeing as the Raptor R enjoyed a year on the market uncontested, Ram will likely want to come out swinging.

What will the TRX look like?

According to the sources close to Mopar Insiders, the 2026 TRX will share much of the same styling and tech that is currently found on the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO. In the wake of the TRX’s 2024 discontinuation, the twin-turbo straight-six truck took over as the rowdy off-roader of the 1500 truck lineup.

Between its factory-installed Bilstein shocks, lockable rear axle and towering ground clearance, there’s no denying that the RHO is competitive against the V6 Raptor. Nevertheless, the Raptor R makes its little sibling look tame, so the TRX is bound to be an even more extreme riff on the RHO.

The Ram 1500 RHO currently undercuts the V6 Ford Raptor by a hefty margin, so Ram may look to do the same with the Blue Oval’s $112,325 Raptor R.

How much will the TRX cost?

At this stage, Ram has yet to officially confirm that a new TRX is on the horizon, so only time will tell what the performance pickup will cost when it finally hits the market.

That said, chances are pretty good that it’ll be a six-figure truck. When the TRX debuted in 2021, MSRP started at $70,095, though options could quickly add to that total. During each subsequent mode year, Ram continued to raise the asking price such that, in 2024, a base TRX would cost you $96,585, and a Final Edition could run as high as $119,620.

With Ram 1500 RHO prices starting at $72,090 for 2025, it’s reasonable to expect that a more powerful and higher-spec TRX will only be more expensive. However, given that the RHO manages to undercut the V6 Raptor’s $81,200 MSRP, Ram may look to follow suit in the case of the $112,325 Raptor R.
