Good morning. Remember Microsoft Paint? The beloved time-killing software used by elementary students and bored office workers to create modernist digital art? Well, it’s officially dead. The program, which has come loaded on every Microsoft computer since 1985, will be replaced with Paint 3D with the new Windows 10 Creators Update coming later this year.

Today’s Gear

What’s New, Now

Primus Kamoto OpenFire Pit

TIG-gear-patrol-primus-body-02

Nevermind that it’s an instantaneous firepit. Nevermind that it unfolds in mere seconds. Nevermind that it’s portable, comes in two sizes, and blocks the wind. The real attraction here is Primus’s incredible story: for 125 years, the Swedish company has been producing camping stoves, making them one of the oldest outdoors brands in existence. Their stoves were used by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay during the first ascent of Mt. Everest in 1953. Their stoves were used by Roald Amundsen, when he became the first person to reach the South Pole in 1911. And their stoves will be used by you, too.

The latest issue of Victory’s oversized print mag is brimming with stories and photography centered around one theme: fighting to succeed, to bring to justice, to win.

Phoozy Thermal Phone Capsule

TIG-gear-patrol-Phoozy

Your phone case does many things, but one thing it doesn’t do is protect against extreme temperatures. This is why your phone goes black whenever you leave it out in the sun or in your car’s glovebox during winter. Slip your phone into the Phoozy pouch, though, and it’ll never overheat or freeze again. The thermal material is adapted from space suit technology; it also protects your phone from drops and keeps it afloat in water.

FiiO Apple Lightning Port DAC and Amplifier

TIG-gear-patrol-fiio’

Whether you’re a hi-fi audiophile or not, everyone deserves great sounding music — even on the go. With the FiiO portable DAC, your audio will go out the lightning port of your iPhone, through the DAC/amplifier, and then into the 3.5mm port to your headphones. This allows you to use your favorite headphones with Apple’s lightning port, providing consistent, high-quality sound – Jeremy Fischer, Editorial Intern

PupSaver Canine Car Seat

TIG-gear-patrol-pupsaver

Recently tested by Cars.com, the PupSaver attaches to your back seat just like a children’s car seat, yet is designed for four-legged companions no bigger than 45 pounds. The full system requires a separate harness, which comes in five sizes.

Casbia x Champion AWOL Atlanta Basketball Sneaker

Zippers, laces and a futuristic silhouette: The Casbia x Champion AWOL Atlanta has everything you want in a sneaker. The all-black body cuts a striking figure, and the combined zip tongue and asymmetrical speed lace system add ease and function to the form. The leather upper and discreet Champion logo enhance the sneaker’s stealth and give it a menacing profile that’s ready for action. – Grant Tillery, Editorial Intern
