Toyota recently debuted its new Crown Sport in Japan. The car is the second vehicle to launch under the revamped Toyota Crown nameplate, and boasts a sleek ‘hammerhead’ front end plus voluptuous rear fenders. It’s powered by a hybrid drivetrain, and designed to be more aerodynamic, but some are saying the new model evokes traces of the Ferrari Purosangue. Set to drop in Japan for about $39,600, fans will have to wait to see if this new release will be available state-side.

Today we’re taking a look at a biodegradable puffer coat, an inkless pen and some delicious vinegar shrubs. This is Today in Gear.

Looking for a more sustainable winter staple? Consider Nadam’s new Biodegradable Puffer ($250). Available in black, olive or iron; the coat was engineered with a special ‘Amni Soul Eco’ yarn that will biodegrade in just five years after you throw it out. That said, it’s also designed to perform for years before that, thanks to wool and plant-based insulation, plus layered wristbands with thumbholes and a detachable hood.

Hike, and Stunt, In ROA

These new hiking sneakers are out of control. Released as part of the brand’s larger Katharina collection, fans can currently shop three versions of the mesh hiking sneaker at Mr.Porter for $360 — $370. There, they’ll find leather and rubber-trimmed versions of the stylish hiker, which are each made in Italy with panels of technical mesh. Across the bottom, Vibram Megagrip soles provide optimal traction, so you can strut on the trail, or out into the night.

A Tiny, Inkless Pen

The ForeverPen ($35) is self-described as the ‘world’s tiniest inkless pen.’ At one-inch long, the machine-milled pen can be used to quickly jot down notes or slice open a package. Technically, you can also use it to write underwater (according to the brand) and it’s fully fire resistant. Best of all, thanks to a small keyhole, you can throw it on your keychain to carry it everywhere.

Celebrating Sober October?

For those who are looking for a delicious no-abv option, consider Sideyard. The brand produces small-batch, fruit-infused vinegars and each release is designed to celebrate one of the brand’s farm partners. Each year, the company cycles through different seasonal drops, offering everything from a Persimmon Turmeric Shrub to Plum Shrubs. Not sure where to start? Bring home the Strawberry Shrub ($30) today. It’s a tart, sweet and juicy vinegar you can serve over sparkling water, or as a vinaigrette, and the berries are grown at Southern California’s Ecology Center.
