Toyota recently teased that its next-generation electric vehicles will arrive in 2026 … with 497 miles of range. Not only that, they’re expected to retail for up to 40 percent less than the company’s current bZ4X. Both announcements are thanks to new battery options: The range-focused lithium ion Performance and the more affordable lithium-iron-phosphate backed Popularisation. Takero Kato, president of Toyota’s EV development center says, “We will need various options for batteries, just as we have different types of engines.” Meanwhile, the new models that will harness these batteries are also expected to be lighter weight and more aerodynamic, to further maximize efficiency.

Today we’re taking a look at NASA-backed bicycle tires, a stackable cast iron set and Timberland’s new boat shoes. This is Today in Gear.

For every camper, there’s the TINCUP Adventure Pack, a double-walled, ready-for-anything canteen that comes filled with the brand’s signature mountain whiskey. The bottle continues TINCUP’s long standing commitment to adventure by combining the brand’s iconic flat-sided bottle design (yup, those sides make the bottle more stable on uneven terrain or during rough journeys to the trailhead) with the indestructibility of stainless steel construction. Inside, the liquid is a blend of a straight bourbon distilled in Indiana and a Colorado single malt, which produces a caramel-colored spirit you’ll want to sip by every campfire.

Meet the World’s First ‘Airless’ Bicycle Tires

First developed by NASA, these new bicycle tires are powered by an inner skeleton made with a material called Nitinol. When bent, the lightweight, highly flexible ‘superelastic’ metal can snap right back into place, so you’ll never have to worry about getting a flat again. Plus, thanks to that same elasticity, and great shock absorption, you can count on a smoother ride. Fans can pledge $500 for a two-tire set at The SMART Tire Company’s Kickstarter below, but act fast, they’re dropping in a limited run.

To create the Authentics Three-Eye Boat Shoe ($150), Timberland took its original (1973) namesake shoe and reimagined it. Across the upper, fans will find premium, responsibly manufactured Timberland leather. Inside, the shoe is lined with two types of leather from one of the oldest tanneries in the US: The Horween Leather company. Best of all, the shoe is built on sturdy lug outsoles for added slip-resistance, and a little extra height.

On’s new Challenger Vest ($280) is the perfect piece to start wearing in early fall, and keep layering on well into winter. Thanks to a high-tech woven chamber construction, fans will benefit from heat-locking technology. The vest’s insulation is also made using recycled plastic bottles, and wears cozy, comfortable and clump-resistant. With three pockets (one inner, two outer) the vest has a place for all your stuff, so you can throw it on before running an errand — or a mile.
