While exploring Tesla’s ‘Full Self-Driving Beta’ software, one ‘white-hat’ hacker discovered that deep within the program, the company has hidden a complete ‘God Mode’ — and internally tagged it as ‘Elon Mode.’ Traditionally, the term ‘God Mode’ is used to describe a hack in a game that makes a player impervious to damage. Here it essentially allows the user unrestricted access. So the hacker decided to test ‘Elon Mode’ over a 600-mile drive. Unfortunately, he found that ‘Elon Mode’ didn’t come with much more than fewer steering wheel nags and a more diligent forward collision warning.

Today we’re taking a look at a handy new water filter, an unconventional boot and a chic summer running collection. This is Today in Gear.

Best of all, an integrated WiFi feature allows you to operate the machine from a smartphone or tablet — so you can really wake up and smell the coffee.

The LifeStraw Peak Solo ($30) is the company’s smallest filter yet. Weighing in at just 1.7 ounces, the device is a great (ultralight) piece of gear for every backcountry kit. It’s designed to screw right on top of a standard water bottle, so you can fill up at any freshwater source and drink right from the filter. Perfect for long hikes or international travel, the filter protects against bacteria, parasites and microplastics.

Eye-catching (if not heartbreaking), the new Huckberry x Crocs collab centers around one durable shoe: the Classic Western Boot ($75). The shoes’ Croslite foam uppers were designed to offer an ‘authentic leather appearance,’ and benefit from additional ‘Western-themed stitching.’ Fully waterproof, the boots boast a molded EVA lining and outsole for added comfort, and might just become this summer’s favorite do-it-all chore boot.

Billed as super light and cooling, the condensed collection centers around four pieces: two tanks, a tee and a pair of 3” racing shorts. With each piece retailing for $98 – $124, most fans will probably want to build their own set with the Strata Singlet ($124) and Strata Shorts ($124). Described as the brand’s, ‘most technical racing singlet’ to date, the piece offers UVA and UVB protection, and comes equipped to reduce heat absorption and odors.
