Ford has patented a trunk – for your truck’s trunk. In theory, the idea is actually pretty practical and will allow users to pack smaller items into a tight storage place housed within the larger truck bed. That said, it’s still a trunk for your trunk. The original patent illustrates two separate bins, one set directly behind the actual bed wall and another placed down into the bed (behind the wheel liner). While the first bin will allow users compact storage in the bed wall, the second seems to be a modular compartment that can be moved around the bed as needed. The design also included an arm that can extend to work as a divider and a ‘cupholder solution.’ However, the bin placed in the bed wall will likely pack into the same spot as Ford’s Pro Power Onboard generator, so fans may have to choose between added storage or power on the go. But on the bright side, with more storage comes more room for gear.
