This week, TikTok announced several updates that it hopes will help users filter out violent, harmful or problematic content. In an interview with CNN, TikTok’s Head of Trust and Safety explained this content could include videos about dieting, extreme fitness and sadness. The app will also introduce a new system that allocates a specific ‘maturity score’ to any videos deemed potentially inappropriate or ‘containing mature or complex themes.’ These changes follow a call made two weeks ago by a member of the FCC to Apple and Google, requesting that the companies remove TikTok from their app stores altogether. FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr cited national security concerns surrounding TikTok’s parent company ByteDance, which Carr called “beholden to the Chinese Government.” While TikTok’s new update is not linked to these accusations, it’s becoming more and more difficult to ignore how influential the app has become. Today we’re looking at a new pair of Oakleys, a new G-Shock and micro-weighted fitness apparel. This is Today in Gear.

OMORPHO has launched ‘the world’s first micro-weighted apparel collection,’ entitled Gravity Sportswear. Each piece features the brand’s ‘MicroLoad’ – which is a series of small weights placed strategically across the body to help you push yourself even further during your usual workout. The brand was founded on the premise that lightweight apparel isn’t always better when it comes to training, and believes that the added resistance helps your muscles work harder and burn more calories. Research has shown that the collection can increase calorie burn by up to eight percent, power output up to eight percent and improve speed by up to three percent. Styles retail from $159 – $399 on site, with options available for both men and women.
