Meta has tabled its latest smartwatch operations, though recent reports claim the piece would have done much more than simply repackage the Apple Watch. Notably, Meta’s smartwatch included two cameras. The first, sat right below the watch’s primary display, most likely so users could participate in video calls. However the second was placed on the back of the watch’s face, against the user’s wrist, where it disrupted the device’s “electromyography” functions. Electromyography is a system that can render digital commands from nerve signals in the user’s wrist. Meta still plans to harness this system to create cutting-edge controllers to complement its upcoming VR headsets, but we’ll have to wait to see how this system can empower a smartwatch. Today we’re looking at new helmets, eco-friendly hammocks, and recycled frisbees. This is Today in Gear.
