Yesterday was the Queen of England’s Platinum Jubilee, a giant celebration of her 70 years of reign as Britain’s longest-serving monarch. Impressive stuff, but if you’re anything like us, the words “platinum jubilee” probably conjure another crown entirely. The crown of a Rolex. Rolex is, of course, known for offering two distinct steel bracelets on its watches: the oyster bracelet and the jubilee. Turns out Rolex debuted the jubilee bracelet in 1945 to celebrate the brand’s 40th anniversary (seven years before the Queen of England took reign for anyone keeping score). The next big Rolex anniversary – or jubilee? – will be in 2030 when the brand celebrates 125 years of watchmaking, which we think would be the perfect time to launch an updated bracelet.
