You’ve seen wind turbines, but did you ever think you could fit one into your backpack? Launched on Kickstarter last year and Indiegogo last week, Aurea Technologies’ Shine is a portable wind turbine that could feasibly fit in your backpack. Designed to charge up USB devices with a 40 W turbine, Shine can store power your gear in real time or can store energy in its internal 12,000 mAh battery for later use. While the brand shows scenarios where the Shine could fit close to or far from home, it’s clear the Shine… well, shines, when you’re looking for power off-grid (think out on camping trips or long hikes). All in all, for a renewable power source that weights about 3 pounds and is portable enough to stash into a backpack, the Shine isn’t too shabby. Backers can expect units to ship sometime in the latter half of 2022 (approximately June through September). Portable turbines aside, we’ve got info on Tom Brady’s new trail-inspired clothing collection, Porsche Design’s sleek new soundbar and the Bellroy bag that’s begging to be taken on vacation. This is Today in Gear.

Another day, another addition to the Brady sportswear brand.

There’s few sportswear brands that have expanded as fast as Tom Brady’s eponymous lifestyle and sportswear label. While the brand launched just last year, it’s already added a golf sub-collection — and now, a line of trail gear — before we’ve gotten halfway through 2022. Going live on May 12, the Brady Trail collection includes shell jackets, belted active shorts, a trail pant and T-shirts (both long and short sleeved) with integrated zip pockets. Get a preview of the upcoming release down below.

Porsche Design’s new soundbar boasts two adjustable speakers for a flexible sound experience.

First things first, Porsche Design’s PDB90 5.1.2 soundbar features Dolby Atmos compatible sound, powered by 16 different drivers (including an integrated subwoofer). The sleek soundbar isn’t your average audio equipment however; the design features two adjustable speakers that can be rotated by 20 degrees and face upwards — making it easier to receive and experience the best possible sound without the need for additional setups, placement or equipment, regardless of where or how or where the PDB90 soundbar integrates into the room.

Part of the Burton family of brands, Anon was founded back in 2001 as a way to supply Burton’s pro snowboarders with top-tier eyewear for life on the slopes. Now the brand is moving into sunglasses, with made-in-Japan designs that span from sport silhouettes, to more traditional Clubmaster-like styles. Check out the range down below.

Bellroy’s new Venture Collection is ready for summer vacation.

We love Bellroy here at Gear Patrol and for good reason; uncomplicated (but practical) luggage and bags are always going to be a winner in our book. Featuring three sling bags (6L, 9L and 10L), a 22L backpack and 40L duffle bag, the series is built to perform whether you’re traveling through the airport or planning a cross-country motorcycle trip. Most travelers will likely appreciate the simple appeal of the Venture Duffel which has a wide, unfussy barrel shape, comes with a water-resistant stuff sack and is made with a water-resistant ripstop outer.

May 2022’s “Buck of the Month” looks an awful lot like R2-D2…

cerkote d2 steel knife Buck Knives

“May the 4th” may have been last week, but that didn’t stop Buck Knives’ from making its May 2022 “Buck of the Month” a little Star Wars-inspired. Using the brand’s Budgie model, the knife features a white Cerakote-coated aluminum handle and blue Cerakote clip and pivot fastener for a blade that looks clean (and, in a way, futuristic). The steel is swapped from S35VN to D2 which, while a downgrade on performance, is a reminder that this is just as much of a “show knife” or collectors item as it is a piece of EDC. This release is limited to just 500 pieces.
