We spoke a little bit about it back in February, but the newest take on the VW Bus — the Volkswagen VW ID. Buzz — has finally been revealed with more details. As expected while Europe will have short wheelbase and cargo van versions of the ID. Buzz, U.S. drivers will only received the long wheelbase model (which, frustratingly won’t get a full reveal until 2023, with sales likely starting in 2024). Using the same MEB platform as the Volkswagen ID.4, and is designed as a people-mover in the same vein as the OG Microbus. In the reveal, it’s clear that the ID. Buzz should be able to hold, as our Motoring Desk put it, “8 people and their things in a space about the size of a modern Jetta.” Optimistically, the ID. Buzz should also have quick-charge capabilities, with estimates saying the ID. Buzz should jump 5 percent to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. Stay tuned to our Motoring Desk for more details on Volkswagen’s retro-futuristic van as they trickle out. Motoring news aside, we’re closing out the week with PopSocket’s new phone grip-battery hybrid, Kizer’s bulky new blade and a KCBC beer collab in support of UNICEF Ukraine. This is Today in Gear.

ZTAGE’s Earth Hour 2022 watch is a new take on world timers.

Boasting the time zones of 24 major cities across the globe, the Earth Hour uses a complex, four-side integrated case to give the watch a multilayered structure. On top of the cities outlined on the face’s outer ring, the Earth Hour also has an embedded world map, which along with the index, hour and minute hands are imbued with Swiss SuperLuminova for visibility in all lighting conditions. Taken together, it’s a watch with a classical pedigree but a thoroughly modern sense of style.

PopSocket debuts “first to market” phone grip-charger hybrid.

PopSocket is known more for its attachable phone grips (basically those little circular thingies you find attached to the back of people’s phones — which pop out and operate as a kickstand or slide in between your fingers as a… well, grip). The brand’s new PopGrip Jumpstart piggybacks of its popular PopGrip — which features interchangeable heads —turning it into a portable battery. Promising to juice up a phone to about 50 percent battery, the Jumpstart’s integrated charging cable makes the device slim enough to still operate as a grip, while boosting battery life on the go.

If you’re unfamiliar, Huckberry always seems to snag an exclusive on top-tier gear (usually scoring an “only-at-Huckberry” colorway). This time the retailer received an exclusive edition of Mystery Ranch’s Urban Assault 21L Pack. Made with with 1000D Cordura fabric (which is the same seen on the packs of US Forest Service Hotshots) and featuring a unique “Oregano” color. With a 3-ZIP design that opens the bag up completely, two internal pockets and a lid pocket, you can carry just about everything you need for the day (all with quick, unfettered access to practically every part of the pack).

Kizer’s new knife is focused on comfort (in more ways than one).

Kizer Cutlery tapped designer Michael Pretsch to craft the Comfort, a 3.25 inch long folder that’s effectively a puukko — a traditional Finnish knife style. The actual “Comfort” name likely stems from the extra thick trapezoidal handle. Made from contoured G-10 scales, it’s .75 inches thick which (even as many modern blades opt for a thinner, more streamlined profile) is designed to be held in the hand for an extended period of time — regardless of hand size.

KCBC collabs with 2085 Brewery on “Hardcore” new beer to benefit UNICEF Ukraine.

While we love KCBC Beer for its incredible eye-catching can artwork (oh, and the team’s equally incredible beer), we love the Brooklyn-based brewery’s latest initiative with 2085 Brewery to support those feeling the effects of the crisis in Ukraine. “Hardcore Parkour” is a DDH IPA with Citra, Strata, Nelson, Sauvin and Mosaic hops, with all proceeds going to UNICEF Ukraine to help children on the ground as they deal with the ongoing conflict with Russia. Great beer, for a better cause — what more could you ask for?
