Today in Gear: Finish Your Week with These Updates

After testing features last year and some earlier buzz this week, Instagram has confirmed it will be rolling out some new features worldwide to all users, with a focus on user activity and security. In a macro sense, Instagram’s new “Your Activity” tab gives users a chance to bulk delete everything from posts and stories, to likes and comments. This is on top of a new ability to filter and search for past comments and interactions. On the security side, the new “Security Checkup” feature is designed to help people whose accounts have been hacked (or might be susceptible to hacking). This includes tracking account data sharing, login details and recovery information. Instagram is also testing a new form of account recovery that allows you to ask your friends to confirm your identity in the event you lose your login details and need to reset your account password. We’ll keep an eye on these features as they inevitably make their way to our phones in the coming weeks.

The Huk Spring 2022 Collection is launching styles that are perfect for life on or off the water. The super-soft Maui Mahi Tee is designed for everyday comfort. The Pursuit Long Sleeve is stain resistant, has side mesh panels to keep you cool and 50+ UPF sun protection. Seiko Prospex adds four reimagined vintage models to night dive-inspired Black Series.

Seiko’s Prospex line is focused on “professional specifications” (hence the clever name). Prospex’s night diving-inspired “Black Series” adds four new watches. Three of the watches use Seiko’s 6R35 Automatic movement, and are inspired by dive watches from 1965, 1968 and 1970 — seen especially in asymmetrical watch faces with the crown at the 4 o’clock. The final model in the release uses Seiko’s Caliber 8L35, has a “sand bed” custom watch face and has a uniquely placed date window set in between the 4 and 5 o’clock markers.

It’s no secret that outdoor brands are setting the fashion world ablaze, and few brands have embodied this trend quite like Salomon. After having one of our favorite sneaker releases of 2021, Salomon is working Carhartt’s fashion-focused Carhartt WIP offshoot on the CSWP Shelter sneakerboot. Featuring a waterproof inner bootie, Climatherm insulation, and traction-focused Winter ContraGrip outsole, it’s truly a blend of form and function. Keep in mind, this is a buzzy collaboration; if you see your size, we recommend buying a pair quickly (these aren’t expected to stay on shelves long).

EDC designer Jens Ansø isn’t afraid to get artistic with his latest pocket knife design.

Who said that EDC couldn’t just be, well… artistic? Designer Jens Ansø has teamed up with Urban EDC Supply to create the Monaco. Featuring a 1.75 inch blade and a handle with bronze or titanium scales, it’s a small spear point made from M390 steel. Each handle is engraved with a wave-like pattern, which reinforces the designs more aesthetic (rather than purely utilitarian) intentions. Sure it’ll cut, but it’s likely to be more fun to simply play with and look at.

The 2022 Ford Bronco just got even more outdoor-ready with the Everglades Edition.

No matter how you slice it the Ford Bronco is a smash hit. Now the model gets even more rugged with the reveal of the Ford Bronco Everglades. Coming standard with 35 inch mud-ready Goodyear tires, a 10,000 pound Warn winch and a factory-installed snorkel, this Bronco might not be as wild as the Raptor, but is ready to get out and get into whatever you’re into. Pre-orders start next month for existing Ford Bronco reservation holders with plans to ship the Everglades model out in Summer 2022.
