With the second beta of iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 out to developers, there’s a few highlights that appear to be coming in the next patch of iOS. The most notable addition is a tweak to Face ID, which should allow Face ID to register a user while wearing a mask, with a focus on eye contact; the understanding being that Face ID needs eye contact to properly identify someone, especially when wearing a mask. Another addition looks to be tweaks to the “Tap to Pay” system, with other NFC compatible devices (like other iPhones) to receive payments and transfers via Apple Pay — just like you might at certain retail cash registers or payment points. For more on other possible tweaks hinted at in the iOS 15.4 beta, head over to MacRumors. We’re giving you a look at The Macallan’s oldest-ever release (seriously), Samsung’s newest slate of smartphones and an Eames chair-inspired loungewear lineup. This is Today in Gear.

Vans’ latest innovation blends eco-conscious design with Vans’ timeless cool: Meet the Circle Vee. Representing a new milestone in the brand’s sustainability efforts, this begins with the Circle Vee’s one-piece knit upper (made from 48 percent organic cotton, 47 percent hemp, and 5 percent nylon) stitched directly onto the outsole. The outsole is made from Vans’ all-new EcoWaffle tech; made from responsibly-sourced natural rubber instead of petroleum-derived synthetic rubber.

The Macallan releases its oldest whiskey ever: an 81-year-old single malt.

We love well-made whiskey, and The Macallan is certainly a name that we constantly keep on-hand near our bar carts. That said, we’ve never seen a release like this. Coming in as the oldest release from The Macallan, “The Reach” is an 81-year-old single malt, crafted back during WWII. Cradled in a sculpted bronze decanter in the shape of three hands, the decanter and the tasting notes (which include a palate of toffee, nutmeg, charred pineapple and woodsmoke) are a celebration of The Macallan’s centuries-old commitment to excellence.

Eames Office — the extended brand universe of designers Charles and Ray Eames — are on a roll when it comes to apparel. After dropping a cult-favorite Reebok collab last year, the Eames brand has teamed up with Japanese brand Gelato Pique on a series of loungewear. Tapping into motifs from across the Eames design catalog (like “The Toy” or many of its various chairs) the collection includes cardigans, sweaters, pajama shirts and slippers. The collection drops on Gelato Pique on February 15, but in the meantime, discover more about the Japanese loungewear brand.
