New year, more (expensive) Rolexes. As we reported yesterday, Rolex quietly increased its prices across the board, with some pieces selling for 10 percent more than they were last year — and that’s just at retail. As many savvy watch buyers know, buying a Rolex at retail is already a difficult feat as it is, so this price increase is really more likely to be felt by shoppers where they actually acquire Rolex watches: the secondary market. Given that the aftermarket already has a price hike for the privilege, we’re expecting at least a reciprocal price increase across the board (though savvy buyers should always be expecting the unexpected in the resale business). Rolex prices aren’t the only thing on our minds this afternoon though. From Sierra Nevada’s hydrating new sparkling hop-infused water to a uniquely trackable backpack unveiled at CES 2022, this is Today in Gear.

Unveiled at CES 2022, Targus’ Cypress Hero EcoSmart Backpack integrates Apple’s “Find My” technology right out of the box, incorporating a trackable product (without the need to buy or add an AirTag). Equipped with a tracking module, the piece supports Precision Finding and would be compatible with an iPhone 11 or later. The key development here is the “highly integrated” nature of the tracking device, which is better than just adding an AirTag to the exterior (which could be simply removed and discarded).

We already hear you: Another take on sparkling water from an alcohol label? Fair enough. However, we’re intrigued by Sierra Nevada’s take on the concept, opting for a unique “hop-infused” water that incorporates Citra and Amarillo hops, accentuated by tropical flavors. Even better, while many additions to this category are designed to compete as an alternative to beers, this is completely alcohol free. Enjoying flavorful hops without the calories of beer? If you couldn’t already tell from yesterday’s run of Today in Gear, but fleece season is here… and clearly Manastash got the memo. The Mt. Gorilla fleece is a flagship silhouette influenced by the brand’s hybrid American-Japanese roots. With an outer shell made from a bonded windproof sherpa and accented by and hemp ripstop panels, its retro silhouette is the perfect alternative to the usual pieces you spy from Patagonia and The North Face (though we’re certainly not knocking those brands).

TaylorMade’s new Carbonwoods have us asking: “Can we start golfing in 2022 yet?”

TaylorMade’s Stealth series of drivers has been 20 years in the making, utilizing what the company is calling “Carbonwood” (a light reference to its “Metalwood” technology). Incorporating proprietary TwistFace tech, the drivers are made with over 60 layers of carbon fiber, which promises better ball speed when compared to the industry-standard titanium driver.
