Details on Chipotle’s sell-out Cilantro soap (yes, you read that correctly), High West’s first nationally-available High Country whiskey and the Norse Projects fleece that’s great to gift this season.

Chipotle understands that — for roughly 15 percent of the population — cilantro takes like soap. Unfortunately for the restaurant chain, cilantro is incorporated into a variety of its dishes. In an effort to reform cilantro’s image (or, better put, lean into its controversial reputation), Chipotle dropped a literal bar of cilantro-scented soap. Leaning into the online debate over cilantro’s soapy-flavor profile, the release is practically a meme come to life. Chris Brandt, Chipotle’s Chief Marketing Officer, said as much of the release: “Our Cilantro Soap plays into a larger trend of turning digital moments into real-life experiences.” While we don’t recommend eating the bar of soap to do a bit of compare-and-contrast with the real thing, we have to admit that maybe Chipotle is on to something; the soap sold out on its initial release. Even if you think cilantro tastes gross, we’ve still got plenty of product news to start off your week. From High West’s first nationally-available High Country whiskey to the Norse Projects fleece that’s great to gift this season, this is Today in Gear.

LifeLabs’ MegaWarm jacket is rated as the warmest jacket on the planet.

lifelabs coat LifeLabs

Plenty of jackets boast supreme heat retention, but how many can say they’re actually the warmest jacket on the market. With a stunning 9.25 CLO rating, it is truly the warmest jacket on Earth. On top of using 800 fill power ethically-sourced goose down, the MegaWarm uses less than a paper clip’s worth of aluminum to reflect 100 percent of radiant body heat back onto the skin. Taken together, the approach gives a supreme warmth-to-weight ratio.

Toshiba launches new flagship Fire TV with built-in, hands-free Amazon Alexa.

toshiba tv Best Buy

Toshiba might be beating Amazon’s Omni TVs at their own game with its recently-announced M-series TVs. Featuring integrated Amazon Alexa, this is reportedly the first Fire TV 4K TV to feature local dimming — a tech that improves contrast by intentionally dimming certain areas of the screen. Coming in 55-, 65- and 75-inch screen sizes, the TVs feature a 120Hz refresh rate, support Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision and voice control. The sets go on sale later this month, but you should be able to compare the TV’s features over on Best Buy and Amazon.

Norse Projects’s Frederik Tab Series Fleece is perfect for gifting (even if it’s just for yourself).

frederik tab series fleece Norse Projects

Created using Polartec Thermal Pro® insulation fleece, this piece boasts supreme insulation without feeling bulky. With a pared-down design — featuring two nylon welted pockets on the front and single zip closure, this fleece honors the thesis of Norse Projects’s Tab Series; honor the brand’s design legacy without ignoring the original military reference. It’s a streamlined design that celebrates clothes that are timeless and fit any style. (While we know the navy colorway is certainly more sensible, we dig the iteration in ecru).

High West has built a national cult following among whiskey fans, generated in part by its sheer exclusivity. While it does have some bottles available nationally, its most-prized bottles are generally sold exclusively in its home state of Utah. When High Country debuted in 2019, it was one of these such whiskeys. Starting this month, High West is making its blended whiskey available in the entire U.S. Learn more about High Country down below.

The natural high of a trip to the sauna, condensed down into a blanket.

higherdose infrared sauna blanket v3 HigherDOSE

Claiming that users can “Get High Naturally,” HigherDOSE’s Infrared Sauna Blanket V3 certainly is intriguing. Replicating the experience of visiting a full-on spa sauna, it’s effectively a blanket-sized sweat chamber. The company claims that, by sweating out heavy metals and toxins in the body, users can boost their mood and stoke the promotion of “feel good” chemicals in the brain (which is where the company’s tagline comes from). While I’m definitely not able to verify any of these claims definitively, the idea that of having a sauna-like experience in a small city apartment has me interested.
