Announced yesterday, Bell’s Brewery (the brewers behind the popular Two Hearted Ale) has reached an agreement with Lion — an Australian-based company that acquired New Belgium back in 2019 — and will be rolled into the global beverage conglomerate. It’s a move that sees the Michigan craft brewer, which has been in business in some form or another since 1985, pivot towards a longer-term growth and even a push for greater sustainability in its brewing operations. It also is vaguely reminiscent of the merging of cult-favorite label Dogfish Head into the greater Sam Adams (aka: Boston Beer) brand family, as craft brewers seek out bigger markets and wider distribution. But enough about beer, we know why you’re here: You’re seeking today’s new gear updates. From The North Face gear that’s designed for Antarctic conditions to Subaru’s first-ever EV, this is Today in Gear.

As seen in the Mongolian Cashmere Full-Zip Hoodie, crafted from 100 percent Mongolian cashmere, it’s a knit that’s luxuriously smooth (at 60 to 70 percent less than traditional retail).

In 1990, The North Face sent a global co-operative to Antarctica on the first dogsled crossing of the continent, sponsoring the team with gear designed to handle the region’s rugged conditions. The North Face has rereleased the Trans-Antarctica Expedition Parka — along with a suite of other retro-inspired gear — to not just honor the milestone of the original expedition, but provide regular folks with the hard-wearing gear those explorers used.

While the program technically already launched on Android devices, Netflix Games finally comes to the Apple Store — making it available, to quote Netflix, “through the Netflix app on any mobile device, anywhere in the world.” While the games skew heavily towards Stranger Things-themed options, it’s an interesting new step for the media streaming giant — with the mobile games functionally wrapped into a subscription you likely already have.

Introducing the Solterra: Subaru’s first-ever EV.

Developed in collaboration with Toyota, the Solterra is Subaru’s first entry into the electric vehicle space. First things first, fans of Subaru’s off-roading vehicles should be happy with the model’s full-time AWD system, which comes standard. As for power, there’s an electric motor for each axle for a combined horsepower of 215 hp. Like to launch mid-2022 we’ll get an even better look at the US edition of the car at next week’s L.A. Auto Show.
