There comes a time when the technology that you hold so dear, and spent so much money on, becomes obsolete — no matter how cutting edge it was when you bought it. It’s the nature of the industry. It seems like the days of obsoletion have arrived for some 2017 iMacs and various older MacBooks. According to a Macrumors report published today, users are flooding Twitter and the Apple Support Communities claiming that their various Apple computers have bricked after trying to upgrade to macOS Monterey. Surely this is an issue Apple will remedy sooner than later, but it has us thinking it may be time for an upgrade to one of Apple’s new M1-powered laptops. Or if you’d rather, how about an upgrade to your bar cart, EDC or running kit? All of this and more in this edition of Today in Gear.

Today in Gear is our daily roundup of all the latest product announcements, drops and news. Want your question featured in our weekly “Ask an Expert” column? Send your most pressing product questions to [email protected].

The Beats Fit Pro are available for preorder today, with a full launch on November 5..

beats Apple

Beats’s newest wireless earbuds are essentially sport-focused versions of Apple’s AirPods Pro. They pack the same H1 chip, have the same active-noise-cancellation and transparency modes, and support spatial audio with dynamic head tracking. And they sound almost as good. The only real difference other than design — the Fit Pro have an all-new flexible earwing tip to help them better stay in your ears — is that they don’t have a wireless charging case. – Tucker Bowe, Senior Staff Writer

Ferrum Forge, the brainchild of LA-based knifemaking brothers Elliot and Chris Williamson, builds on the success of the Lackey fixed blade with this XL version. The 4.6-inch blade adds 1.7 inches to the original — probably not a fit for your EDC, but when you need a big blade that will stand up to wear and tear, look no further.

Huckberry’s sleek new collaboration with Danner offers equal parts style and performance.

This collaboration feels like such a no-brainer. It’s the epitome of city-to-mountain, and even if the aesthetic leans more city, the Huckberry take on Danner’s Vertigo 917 is still packed with plenty of performance features to tackle your day-hikes and camping trips.

Subaru will reveal the Solterra EV in full on November 11th.

Subaru’s first full EV, the Solterra, will officially go on sale in 2022. Based on the teaser shots, it looks primed to hit the sweet spot of the brand’s core audience. And while Subaru is marketing it as an SUV, the photos we’ve seen lead us to believe it will trend much more in the crossover direction.
