GoPro’s Just-Released Action Camera Is on Sale Now
Action cameras have become ubiquitous from ski slopes to hiking trails to city centers — it seems as though everybody has one, but that hasn’t stopped GoPro from continually upping the ante on a yearly basis. Earlier this year it released its latest action camera, the HERO6 Black, and promised two times more performance across the board over its older (just over a year older) brother, the HERO5 Black.
The main improvements in the HERO6 come thanks to its new guts, the GP1 chip, which allow it to record faster framerates at higher resolutions. What does that really mean? Better-looking slow motion, for starters. The camera can also be awakened with voice controls and comes with quick video editing software built-in.
There’s no doubt that the HERO6 is a great action camera, especially when it’s marked down by $50. But let’s remember that its predecessor was considered best-in-class just one year ago — it’s still waterproof, features voice and LCD touchscreen controls, and it still packs more power than the everyday user will likely take advantage of. If you’re considering picking up either camera this holiday season, know that right now, the older HERO5 is two times better in one aspect — it’s $100 off.
