Today’s Gear

What’s New, Now

Stone Ghost Hammer IPA

TIG-gear-patrol-Stone-IPA

Past midnight at the Stone Brewery, the pipes and kettles rattle and thump as if being pounded on by an evil spirit’s phantom mallet. The late-night “Brew Crew,” which tends to Stone’s fermenting beer during these dark hours, calls this evil spirit the “Ghost Hammer.” To honor these brave brewers, Stone released an all-new unfiltered IPA with notes of dark fruit, pepper and citrus.

Bellroy Pencil Case

You have two options. One, toss your pencils, pens and assorted pocket junk in whatever pouch or rejected coffee mug you can find; two, store them in something more thoughtful, like Bellroy’s Pencil Case. It’s made of responsibly sourced canvas and leather, has pull loops on both ends, and folds out into a handy desk tray. Go with option two. (And, while you’re at it, consider one of Bellroy’s excellent wallets.)

Needessentials Primaloft Insulator Jacket

TIG-gear-patrol-Need-Essentials-

Needessentials is a relatively new company built on a radical concept: no advertising, no packaging, no brand ambassadors and no logos. This unconventional approach allows them to focus exclusively on making world-class surf and mountain gear, and to sell it much cheaper than traditional brands’ products. Here’s a lightweight jacket made of synthetic, water-resistant Primaloft insulation, with a quilted interior and exterior, elastic cuffs and more.

The Dalmore Vintage Port Collection

The Dalmore’s upcoming trio of whiskeys are aged in W&J Graham’s port casks. The oldest expression, bottled in 1996, carries notes of gingerbread, passion fruit, pineapple, marzipan and blood oranges,” the 1998 carries notes of honeyed bananas, blueberries, grapes, Damson plums and dark treacle,” the 2001 has “a spicier aroma,” with notes of morello cherries, coffee, Turkish delight and figs.

Ahead of this year’s Only Watch 2017, a biennial fundraiser for the Monaco Association Against Muscular Dystrophy, F.P. Journe unveiled its first-ever split-second chronograph, the Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante. The case measures 44mm; the blue chrome dial features twin subdials, tachymeter and telemeter scales and more; the wheels, plates and bridges are coated in 18-karat rose gold, while red, orange and yellow accents embolden its traditional luxe look. When it’s auctioned this November, it’s expected to sell for between $200,000 and $400,000 USD.

Farm + Land Curated Retreats for City Dwellers

TIG-gear-patrol-Farmland

This fall, a lucky bunch of creative city-dwelling folk will be invited to one of three retreats on the outskirts of New York, Los Angeles and San Fransisco. The retreats will feature Instagram-worthy “tiny house” accommodations, farm-to-table dining, workshops, keynote speakers, campfire concerts and more.

Brilliant Bicycle Co. L Train Edition Commuter

TIG-gear-patrol-Bike-2

From the Gear Patrol Store: The time to take back your commute is now. If you’re one of the 250,000 Brooklyn residents directly affected by the 15-month shutdown of New York’s L train, Brilliant Bicycle Co.’s new L Train bike is specifically tailored to help. It starts with a double-butted chromoly steel frame that varies in thickness, offering durability at key weld points while still staying light enough to haul up stairs and pedal over bridges. And forget about the nightmare of traditional chains. The L Train’s grease-free Gates carbon belt drive is good for thousands of miles of use without needing a tune-up and won’t ruin your pants.
