TikTok and its 1.4 billion users have a little less musical ammo for their video creations. The social media platform’s contract with major music label Universal Music Group has expired, and the label posted an open letter “to the artist and songwriter community” on why they needed to “call time out on TikTok.” UMG represents artists with just the kind of music TikTokers want — we’re talking Taylor Swift, Drake, Bad Bunny and Billie Eilish. The companies couldn’t agree on royalty payments, the intrusion of artificial intelligence and online safety concerns.

Today we’re taking a look at new commuter-ready shoes, a long-awaited bath towel and fresh watch colors. This is Today in Gear.

Gozney’s Pizza Arc

Compact at-home pizza ovens are nothing new. But this fresh release from Gozney has us looking at the category with renewed interest. The Arc (from $699), so named for the way its lateral burner projects a curving flame across the oven’s domed ceiling, promises professional, wood-fired results in a sleek, portable platform. The oven will be available next month in standard and XL sizes capable of turning out 14- and 16-inch pies, respectively.
