Welcome to our new weekly dose of gear intel. Here at Gear Patrol, we are constantly sifting through an endless stream of product drops, big-time sales and cultural events to only bring you the best of what we find. But sometimes there are extra special things that truly demand your attention. So at the beginning of each week, we’ll let you know about the best of these that should be on your radar.

Product Releases

Verve Instant Coffee

California coffee roaster Verve is dipping into the spec instant game when it launches Verve Craft Instant Coffee on Huckberry and at select cafes on August 18. It will come in three flavors — Streetlevel Blend ($16), Honduras Edgardo Tinoco ($17) and Kenya Kathakawa ($17) — and will be available in a box with six packets that have thirty grams of coffee in each. Gear Patrol Staff Writer Will Price is “fairly lit about it” and you should be, too.

Dates: August 18
Location: Online at Huckberry
Price: $16+

Vasque Clarion 88 GTX

A retro look with updated technical materials can make for a smart path to a good boot. Vasque has done just that by rebirthing the Clarion 88 GTX from its 1988 catalog. While it’s built to tackle any trail, our Outdoors + Fitness Editor Steve Mazzuchi has been wearing these every single day since he came back from Outdoor Retailer with them. You’d think wearing a hiking boot in the middle of a New York City summer wouldn’t add up, but the proof is in the pudding.

Dates: August 15
Location: Exclusively on Vasque’s website
Price: $160

Nike Joyride Run Flyknit

We tested out the new Nike Joyride Run Flyknit back when it was announced, and it was unlike anything we’ve ever run in before. Made for people who hate running, thousands of tiny beads fill the midsole that adjust to your foot with each step, providing 100 percent customized cushioning. While they were initially available on July 25 if you’re a Nike member, they will be available to everyone else on August 15.

Dates: August 15
Location: Nike’s website and retailers
Price: $180

Smartwool Intraknit

Smartwool is set to launch the Intraknit baselayer series exclusively on REI’s website on August 15. Intraknit features a 3D knitting technique that allows a seamless construction of varying performance zones so ventilation, insulation and articulation can be placed exactly where they are needed. Intraknit is available in a crew, bottom, 1/4 zip and thermal bottom.

Dates: On pre-order now, available August 15
Location: REI’s website
Price: $120+

Hyperice Hypervolt Plus

Hyperice is releasing an upgrade on one of our favorite products from 2018, the Hypervolt. The new edition, the Hypervolt Plus, is a jump in price from the original $349 but is well worth it for a hand massager that offers a 30 percent upgrade in intensity. Because of that it’s definitely one for serious athletes or those that exercise regularly — although the one that’s being tested in the office has made quite a few happy backs.

Dates: Available for pre-order, ships August
Location: Hyperice’s website
Price: $449

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VII

The RX100 platform from Sony gets yet another upgrade after the RX100 VI came out one year ago. The main update for the new RX100 VII is the addition of an external mic port so users now have an audio input. With 4K HDR shooting capabilities, terrific advanced tracking, and autofocus features, the RX100 is probably the best all-around travel camera for most people.

Dates: On preorder now, ships August 16
Price: $1,198

The Whisky Auction to End All Whisky Auctions

Starting at 3:00 a.m. EST on Saturday, August 16 the world’s most valuable and rarest Japanese whisky collection will be auctioned by Bonhams. That collection is Hanyu Ichiro’s Mall Full Cards Series and it is expected to fetch somewhere between $570,000 – $770,000. The celebrated collection comprises 54 bottles, each representing a playing card in a full pack. Each “card” was bottled from a single cask of premium whisky ranging in production years from 1985 to 2014 by the acclaimed closed distillery of Hanyu. If you’re a whisky lover, this is as rare as it gets.
