[11:43]: If he’s going to pass it down then I’d go this order: Universal Genevé (pronounce it right if you’re on video though or it’ll sound painful later), Longines, Archimede (if new is necessary).
Andrew Connor [9:12 AM]: If we’re talking just new watches, I’d actually pick the Hamilton over the Archimede. I have more faith in a bigger brand’s long-term reliability, plus I just think it’s the better-looking watch, plus the Hamilton has a Swiss movement if that matters to the buyer (frankly it shouldn’t but everyone has their preferences).
[9:14]: Otherwise yeah I agree with Eric, this dude clearly wants the ’50s/’60s style and for the money s/he could have an actual watch from that era — go with a vintage Omega Seamaster, they’re great-looking, ubiquitous and every competent watchmaker under the sun is going to be able to service/repair it if need be.
