A Fitness Tracker You Don’t Have to Remember to Wear

Under Armour’s new line of fitness-tracking shoes will tell you how tired your legs are, before you start running.

The release of Under Armour’s fitness-tracking shoe, the Speedform Gemini 2 Record Equipped, earlier this year signaled that the future of wearable fitness trackers is tied to your feet. The shoe recognizes when you start running, uses a battery that will outlast the shoe itself and doesn’t even require the accompaniment of a smartphone during exercise.

Under Armour is expanding its line of Record Equipped running shoes with three new models for 2017: the Speedform Gemini 3, the Speedform Europa and the Speedform Velociti. The new shoes each provide different levels of support and weight to cater to a wider range of runners. Like their predecessor, they all link to the MapMyRun app. In addition to gathering data as you run, the shoes will tell you how tired your muscles are before you even start through a simple, scientifically backed Jump Test, which is designed to inform your workout and avoid prolonged fatigue.

The expansion of the line shows that Under Armour is putting its money behind fitness tracking that seamlessly integrates into the routine you already have, without requiring you to wear new dongles or fuss with your smartphone every time you decide to hit the pavement.
