Wharfedale first released its original Linton loudspeakers in 1965 and they were the company’s best-selling speakers through the 1970s.

In 2019, the British hi-fi maker revived the Linton loudspeakers as part of its Heritage Series — where it re-engineers its iconic speakers from the 1960s and 1970s with modern technologies — and five years later it’s doubling down on the Linton even further.

The new “Super” Linton loudspeakers have the same vintage look as the Linton of old (including the 2019-released Linton) but boast upgraded acoustics and promise a superior sound.

Heritage looks, superior sound

Wharfedale’s new Super Lintons are three-way standmount loudspeakers — most similar to the 1975-released Linton 3XPs and not the 1965-released Lintons, which had a two-way design — with a large bass driver positioned below a midrange and tweeter driver.

Compared to the 2019-released Lintons — named the Linton 85th Anniversary models, which Wharfedale still sells — the Super Lintons look basically identical and have the same footprint, but each speaker stands slightly taller (increasing each cabinet’s volume) and has a new dual-layer construction for improved acoustics.

Driver upgrade

Complimenting the increased size of the cabinets are the Super Linton’s new crossover design (which splits into two separate boards) and drivers — all three have been upgraded.

The 8-inch Kevlar-cone woofer is the same, but it’s backed by a more powerful motor system to promise deeper, better bass (now down to 32Hz). The tweeter has the same offset positioning but inherits features from the tweeter in Wharfedale’s flagship Dovedale speakers. And the midrange unit boasts upgraded housing.

According to the brand, the Super Linton loudspeakers deliver “deeper bass, more detailed treble, and a [more] finely tuned midrange” when compared to their non-super siblings.

Price and availability

The Wharfedale Super Linton loudspeakers are available now and a pair costs $2,499. The matching stands cost an additional $300 if purchased with the speakers, but an additional $400 if purchased separately.

If those who like the look of the Super Linton, but are put off by the price, Wharfedale continues to sell its 2019-released Lintons for $1,499 (sans stands) and $1,799 (with stands).
