It’s 2025, and it’s pretty crazy that most in-flight entertainment systems still don’t support Bluetooth. This means you can’t use wireless headphones — or wireless earbuds, like AirPods — with them to watch a movie while you fly.
Unless you have a Bluetooth dongle, of course.
A Bluetooth dongle is a tiny gadget that plugs into your seat’s 3.5mm aux jack and pairs with your headphones via Bluetooth. This allows you to use wireless headphones with older devices that don’t support Bluetooth … like an airline’s in-flight entertainment system.
To date, Twelve South’s line of AirFlys has been the most popular Bluetooth dongle for AirPods. Now, the well-known Apple accessory maker has introduced a new-and-improved version of its best Bluetooth dongle.

Improved controls
Twelve South’s AirFly Pro 2 has been improved in several key ways over its 2019-released predecessor.
The most useful of these is that the dongle has volume control buttons — a feature the newer yet cheaper AirFly SE already has — so you can adjust the volume without touching your AirPods (or the on-device controls).
