Tivoli Audio, a Boston-based audio company that specializes in wireless speakers with a distinct retro flair, has been on a bit of a hot streak lately.

In the last several weeks, it has released a new affordable wireless speaker, the Boutique, and a stunning special-edition version of the SongBook Max, its high-end portable Bluetooth speaker.

Now, the brand is giving arguably its most popular speaker a stylish upgrade.

2000s heritage

The Model One is the original speaker that started it all for Tivoli Audio. Released in 2000, it was a small tabletop AM/FM radio with a utilitarian design inspired by the 1950s-60s.

A decade later, the brand released the Model One BT — an updated model that still features an AM/FM radio, hardwood cabinet, analog dials, and auxiliary input — that adds Bluetooth connectivity so you could more easily stream music.

(Note: In recent years, Tivoli Audio has released several iterations of this tabletop speaker, including the Model One Digital, which adds Wi-Fi streaming and a digital display.)

1970s inspiration

To date, the Model One BT has been available in various bespoke finishes — mainly combining a light/dark front panel with a walnut/oak/cherry cabinet — but now the Tivoli Audio is releasing special-edition versions that add a bit of color.

Specifically, its “70’s Color Collection” blends the 70s feel with modern sound. It features the same Model One BT in five new colors: poppy red, highlighter yellow, avocado green, golden hour orange and navy blue. All models are paired with a walnut cabinet.

“”This limited series is a passion project,” says Paul DePasquale, Tivoli Audio’s CEO and designer. “I have always loved the wood with pops of color schemes in 70s décor. The goal was to create something colorful, warm, and fun.”

The ’70s Color Collection is a limited-edition series — although Tivoli Audio hasn’t specified how many of these speakers its going to make.

If you want one, it will cost a bit extra. While Tivoli Audio sells the Model One BT for $180 (here), the special-edition models cost an extra $40.

They’re available for preorder now from the company’s website, with an estimated ship date of between 6-8 weeks.
