Tivoli Audio has something of a cult following. The Boston-based audio company has made immaculately designed speakers for over two decades. Its standout is the Model One, a tabletop AM/FM radio first released in 2000 but looked like it was straight out of the 1950s.

In recent years, the brand has released a wide variety of tabletop radios and wireless speakers, all with retro-inspired designs.

Last year, Tivoli Audio released the Model Two Digital, a stunning tabletop wireless speaker with a brushed aluminum grille and smooth wooden cabinet. It also supports streaming over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

And just this week, the company has released what is essentially a smaller version of the Model Two Digital, but with a few key differences.

Metal and wood

The Tivoli Audio Boutique resembles the company’s popular Model Two Digital table-top speaker. It has a similar brushed metal ionized grill and smooth wooden veneer cabinet.

But the speaker is roughly half the size (and half as powerful). Also, it’s not quite as versatile.

Smaller and simplified

The biggest difference with the Boutique is the way it plays music. Instead of supporting streaming over both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the Boutique only supports the latter.

The speaker does have a 3.5mm auxiliary jack on its back for connecting an analog source. The back is where the volume controls are too — there’s no front volume knob like on the Model Two Digital.

Interestingly, the Boutique has two USB charging ports — one USB-C and one USB-A — on its top. This way, if the speaker is placed on a nightstand or desk, you can use it to charge your smartphone.

Naturally, being smaller and only support Bluetooth streaming, the Boutique won’t deliver quite the same level audio as its larger sibling.

The Boutique packs a 3-inch full-range driver that, according to the brand, can play audio with a frequency range of 20Hz–20kHz. It’s powered by a 10-watt amplifer.

For comparison, the Model Two Digital packs a 0.75-inch tweeter on top of a 3-inch full-range driver. And it’s powered by a 20-watt amp.

Price and availability

The Tivolio Audio Boutique costs $150, making it the most affordable powered speaker that the company sells. Comparatively, the Model Two Digital costs $400.

Like its larger sibling, the Boutique comes in three different metal-and-wood finishes: walnut/gold, white/silver and black/black.

The speaker is available for preorder now from the company’s website. It’s expected to start shipping in 4-6 weeks.
