Samsung is one of the biggest names in soundbars. At CES earlier this year, it announced its 2025 line, and two models stood out.

First, there’s the Samsung HW-Q990F, the company’s new flagship 11.1.4-channel soundbar system. It’s quite similar to last year’s HW-Q990D, but the new model has a redesigned (and smaller) subwoofer and boasts advanced AI features that promise improved all-around sound.

Second, there’s the Samsung HW-QS700F, which is arguably the more exciting of the two. It’s a first-of-a-kind soundbar for Samsung that, thanks to innovative design and unique built-in sensor, works like few other soundbars out there.

Not your average soundbar

At first glance, the Samsung HW-QS700F looks like most other soundbars, but it’s got a secret: it has an innovative “convertible” design that allows it to adapt its sound to where and how it’s placed.

Most soundbars can be wall-mounted or placed on a tabletop, but the way they are positioned stays the same — the top is still the top, for example. The HW-QS700F does it differently. When placed on a tabletop, the soundbar is positioned horizontally. When wall-mounted, it’s positioned vertically (as shown in the lead image).

The secret to the HW-QS700F is that it’s one of the few soundbars with a built-in gyroscope. This sensor detects how the soundbar is positioned and then changes the jobs of its speaker drivers accordingly. When switched from a tabletop to being wall-mounted, its front-firing drivers and up-firing drivers change roles — and vice versa the other way. Pretty neat.

Samsung hasn’t explicitly stated which position the HW-QS700F sounds best. It’s also worth noting that, while new for Samsung, this isn’t the first soundbar to have a built-in gyroscope and have similar adaptability — Devialet’s 2022-released Dione soundbar is one such example.

A new kind of Dolby Atmos soundbar

The Samsung HW-QS700F is a 3.1.2-channel system consisting of a soundbar and a wireless subwoofer. The soundbar has eight drivers, two of which are upward-firing, while the subwoofer is the same one that comes with Samsung’s new flagship HW-Q990F soundbar system.

The soundbar supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X and promises to create an immersive audio experience. Additionally, it’s one of the first soundbars to support Eclipsa Audio, a new immersive technology developed by Samsung and Google that’s set to rival Dolby Atmos.

The Samsung HW-QS700F is very much a modern soundbar, as it supports streaming over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi (including AirPlay 2 or Spotify Connect).

It supports HDMI ARC and optical connections, allowing it to work with new or older TVs. There’s also an HDMI output on the soundbar, so you can connect a media player or gaming console without having to hook it up directly to your TV.

Price and availability

When the Samsung HW-QS700F was announced earlier this year, neither a price nor a release date was attached to it. But, as of April 2025, that has since changed.

The Samsung HW-QS700F soundbar system costs $700 and is available now … if you order now through the company’s website, you can save $70.
