The popular Austrian hi-fi maker is continuing its hot streak with new turntable releases — just in the past few weeks, it’s rolled out the entry-level T1 Evo ($449), midrange Debut Evo 2 ($699+), balanced Debut Pro B (1,099+) and gorgeous XA B ($1,499+).

Only this time, it’s going all out — and big.

The new flagship

These days, Pro-Ject is well-known for making high-quality turntables at reasonably affordable prices — its popular T Series and Debut lines range between $350 and $600. But its new flagship turntable, the Signature 12.2, represents what the brand can do if it were to “pull out all the stops.”

According to the brand, listeners of the Signature 12.2 can expect “a deep, full and immersive sound quality that’ll deliver new sonic experiences — even from songs users have heard a thousand times.”

Over 80 pounds

The Signature 12.2 is a sight to behold. Its shimmering industrial design is comprised of over a hundred CNC-machined metal parts. According to the company, all manufacturing is done in-house to help keep costs down.

Every component on the Signature 12.2 is designed to dampen vibrations and ensure the clearest possible signal path. It has a high-mass record platter that weighs 25 pounds on its own, and its anti-resonant MDF plinth weighs over 50 pounds and features four stainless knobs for adjusting the spring-loaded feet.

In total, the turntable weighs over 80 pounds.

The Pro-Ject Signature 12.2 is a flywheel belt-drive turntable packed with high-end features. Its 12-inch aluminum tonearm features a 3-point pivot bearing for extra stability. The removable headshell allows enthusiasts to easily swap in different phono cartridges (MC).

Note: The Pro-Ject Signature 12.2 doesn’t come with a cartridge, so you’ll have free reign to choose your own.

Price and availability

The Pro-Ject Signature 12.2 will begin shipping in November 2024 and will retail for $14,999 (no cartridge). It’s only available in a “luxurious piano-black” finish.

It’s the company’s highest-end and most expensive turntable to date. (Taking that title away from the company’s previous flagship model, the $13,999 Signature 12.)
