In recent years, Pro-Ject has released several special-edition turntables in its Artist Series, which celebrates some of the most iconic musicians and artists of all time.

For example, the Austrian hi-fi maker has collaborated with the likes of Pink Floyd, Metallica and The Beatles to make audiophile-grade turntables with signature eye-catching designs. According to the brand, they’re meant to be “conversation starters.”

Now it’s AC/DC’s turn. That’s right, the newest addition to Pro-Ject’s Artist Series celebrates the legendary band known for hits like “Thunderstruck,” “Back in Black,” “Shoot to Thrill” and “T.N.T.”

Shaped like a giant lightning bolt

The Pro-Ject AC/DC Turntable definitely doesn’t look like your average belt-drive turntable. For starters, it has a glossy black MDF plinth that’s shaped like a huge lightning bolt, paying homage to the iconic band.

It has a heavy glass platter and an acrylic sub-platter — both of which are transparent. And thanks to being integrated with some well-placed LED lights, the turntable glows red when playing records … which is pretty rock n’ roll if you ask me.

As for other details, the turntable’s 8.6-inch acrylic tonearm is red and shaped like a lightning bolt. The little handle — used to place the stylus on the record (and then lift it off) — is shaped like a tiny lightning bolt, as well.

More than a conversation starter

Naturally, the Pro-Ject AC/DC Turntable is more than just its good looks — it’s a bonafide audiophile-grade turntable.

It comes with a pre-adjusted Ortofon 2M Red MM cartridge, which costs $99 on its own. And thanks to a heavy, zero-resonance design, Pro-Ject says it “produces the tightest and most accurate playback speeds.”

Additionally, it comes with Pro-Ject’s Connect It phono RCA cable, which you’ll need to use to connect to an external phono preamp or an integrated amplifier that has one, as the turntable doesn’t have one built-in.

Price and availability

As you probably guessed, you’re going to have to spend a little above the odds to nab this special edition turntable. It’s priced at £1,149, which comes out to roughly $1,460. You’ll be able to purchase it from the brand’s website and select audio retailers this month.

At the time of writing, we’re unsure exactly how many of these special-edition turntables Pro-Ject will make.
