Streaming integrated amplifiers are some of the most popular hi-fi components because of their versatility. The “just add speakers” amplifiers have numerous wired and wireless connections so you can use them in myriad ways. Hook them up to your TV, turntable or CD player. Or stream high-resolution audio to them right from your smartphone.
To date, most of the biggest names in audio — from NAD to Cambridge Audio, Sonos to WiiM — now have streaming integrated amplifiers. The latest one to get into the action is McIntosh, the luxury hi-fi brand that was recently acquired by Bose (who also makes a streaming integrated amplifier).
And naturally, being made by McIntosh, it’s as gorgeous as it is expensive.
McIntosh MSA5500

Signature glow and power
The McIntosh MSA5500 is a high-end streaming integrated amplifier that looks distinctly McIntosh. It features a high-gloss black finish, blue-glowing power meters, and a signature green-illuminated logo — similar to many of the company’s other h-fi components.
It’s a little powerhouse. The MSA5500 is an amplifier that can output 100 watts (into 8 ohms) or 160 watts (into 4 ohms) per channel, and therefore is designed to be paired with a high-end pair of bookshelf or floorstanding loudspeakers.
