Soundbars are incredibly convenient, relatively affordable and they definitely sound better than the built-in audio of a TV. Which is why they’re the first stop for many amateur enthusiasts when building out a home theater.
With its new audio streamer, however, Marantz makes the case that you should skip them altogether. Meet the Model M1, the company’s new all-in-one solution for less than a $1,000.

The Model M1 is a new, entry-level (for Marantz, anyway) audio streamer designed to serve as the “heartbeat” of your home’s sound, says the heritage audio company famous for its high-end audio components.
The Model M1 uses the HEOS app to access Tidal and Roon; it also supports Bluetooth, Spotify Connect and AirPlay2. Meanwhile, line-level RCA analog inputs give users the choice to hook up a turntable, cassette deck or other legacy audio device to enjoy physical media.

Marantz also wants budding audiophiles to see the Model M1 as a true alternative to soundbars when they’re not listening to music. The streamer boasts an eARC HDMI input that gives users the ability to control the sound of their TV with a normal remote, along with features like a “Dialogue Enhancer” that makes dialogue easier to hear at low volumes.
