Marantz just announced its 10 Series Collection, consisting of three reference-quality audio components. It’s the first time the Japanese hi-fi maker has released such flagship stereo products since 2016.

In the new series, there’s an SACD player (Marantz SACD 10) and a network audio player (Marantz Link 10n). But by far the standout is the all-new Model 10 integrated amplifier.

According to the company, the Model 10 is “the most powerful one-box amplifier Marantz has ever made.”

Specs

Power 2 x 250 watts (8 ohm), 2 x 500 watts (4 ohm)
Frequency Response 20Hz~20kHz (+0dB/-0.3dB)
Speaker Impedance 4 to 16 ohms

High power, low distortion

The Marantz Model 10 is the company’s most powerful (and most expensive) integrated amplifier. It promises to deliver 250 watts per channel (at 8 ohm) or 500 watts per channel (at 4 ohms) with “astonishingly low” distortion; Marantz claims total harmonic distortion (THD) is 0.005% when at full power.

By comparison, its previous flagship integrated amplifier, the PM-10, topped out at 200 watts per channel (at 8 ohm) or 000 watts per channel (at 4 ohms).

90s circuitry, refined

The Model 10 has a symmetrical dual-mono design with a copper-plated, triple-layered chassis. Its design is compartmentalized “to provide complete engineering separation of each critical internal function.”

Inside is a Class D amplifier that Marantz designed in tandem with Danish hi-fi experts Purifi Audio. The preamplifier’s design is based on the latest generation HDAM analog circuitry; Marantz first integrated this proprietary circuitry in its popular PM-99SE amplifier that was released in 1992.

Turntable ready

The Model 10 features a high-quality phono stage complete that’s compatible with both MM and MC cartridges, making it compatible with most high-end turntables. There’s also a high-quality headphone output for those inclined to have a private listening session.

Additionally, the Model 10 features several analog inputs including  two XLR balanced three RCA. There are both XLR and RCA outputs, as well, allowing you to connect a separate preamplifier and use the Model 10 just as a power amplifier.

Luxurious yet inviting

According to Marantz, the Model 10 embodies “unparalleled heritage, performance and contemporary luxury design.” And it certainly looks the part.

The Model features solid aluminum side panels and CNC-machined spun-finished aluminum control knobs. Discreet LED lighting — which you can adjust between 20 brightness settings — in the front panel gives the impression that it’s illuminated from within.

And, maybe most notably, the Model 10 features a porthole-style OLED display screen that can switched to show volume level, selected inputs or even VU meters.

Price and availability

The Marantz Model 10 is available in two different finishes: champagne or black. Each unit costs $15,000, making the Model 10 substantially more expensive than its previous flagship integrated amplifier, the $8,999 PM-10.

The Marantz Model 10 will be available this coming October.
