GoldenEar is a high-end audio manufacturer that specializes in high-performance loudspeakers.

In 2023, the brand released the award-winning T66 floorstanding loudspeakers ($6,900/pair), and now it’s releasing smaller (and more affordable) versions that promise to be a better fit for tighter listening spaces.

A smaller floorstanding sibling

The GoldenEar T44 is the newest addition to the company’s T Series. The compact floorstanding speakers promise similar audiophile sound as the T66, but are packaged in a space-conscious body.

The two loudspeakers share the exact same footprint, but each T44 loudspeaker stands roughly eight inches shorter than the T66.

Both have a three-way design, but GoldenEar’s new smaller models have a five-driver array instead of six. One of the midrange drivers has been sacrificed.

Trickle-down driver tech

GoldenEar has integrated the T44 loudspeakers with nearly the same drivers and acoustic technologies as in its T66 loudspeakers.

The two feature the brand’s signature folded ribbon tweeter that, according to GoldenEar, produces “silky-smooth highs with ultra-fast transient response and broad, natural dispersion.” They also have the same 4.5-inch cast-basket mid/bass driver, albeit the T44 only has one, and the T66 has two.

And they have the same powered woofer section, paired with the same two passive radiators. That’s right, it’s powered.

Active bass

Just like the T66, the GoldenEar T44 is a set of floorstanding loudspeakers with a hybrid design — the tweeter and midrange drivers are passive are require external amplification, while woofer is powered by a built 56-bit DSP amplifier.

This hybrid design means that each loudspeaker requires a constant connection to power. The idea is that these loudspeakers can deliver room-filling sound with a deep, punchy bass that’d normally require an external subwoofer.

Price and availability

The GoldenEar T44 compact floorstanding speakers start at $4,900, making them roughly two grand less expensive than the brand’s larger T66.

The loudspeakers come in two different finishes, Piano Black or a more striking Santa Barbara Red, the latter of which adds $400 to the final price tag.

The T44 loudspeakers are expected to start shipping in mid-July 2025 and can be ordered exclusively through an authorized GoldenEar retailer.
