Wireless active speakers are some of the hottest components in hi-fi. These speaker-and-amplifier combos deliver superb stereo sound without the need for extra components. And since they pack a multitude of wireless and wired connections, you can use them however you want.
You can hook the speakers up to your turntable, TV or existing hi-fi system. Or you can stream to them via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth (and group them with your home’s other wireless speakers). They’re plug-and-play speaker systems that make hi-fi easy.
To date, the most popular active speaker systems — by the likes of KEF and Q Acoustics — have been bookshelf- and monitor-sized. But more hi-fi brands are going big — like floorstanding big.
Focal, the luxury French hi-fi brand, is the latest to adopt this trend. Best known for its high-end loudspeakers — which cost more than most homes and luxury sports cars — the company is entering the world of active speakers for the first time with the Diva Utopia.
And it’s doing so in the biggest, most expensive way possible.

The Diva Utopia is a joint collaboration between Focal and its sister brand, Naim. Focal brought the loudspeaker expertise, while Naim — who makes some of the best (and most beautiful) streaming amps — aided with streaming and amplification. According to the companies, the Diva Utopia has been five years in the making.
Each loudspeaker has a 3-way design — consisting of a beryllium tweeter, a mid-bass speaker driver, and four side-mounted woofers — and packs 400 watts of power. Naim’s Class A/B amplification feeds 150 watts to the tweeter and mid-bass drivers, with the remaining 250 watts distributed between the four woofers.
