Focal is a luxury French hi-fi company known for making some of the best (and most expensive) loudspeakers on planet Earth. For example, a pair of its Grande Utopia loudspeakers can run almost $300,000.
Focal makes a wide variety of high-fidelity headphones designed for audiophiles and music professionals, too. But in recent years, it’s also dabbled more into consumer space.
In 2022, it released the Bathys (pronounced “bat-ees”), its first and only pair of wireless noise-cancelling headphones. They are priced at $699, making them still some of the most expensive ANC wireless headphones on the market.
And while the company hasn’t released a second-generation model of these nearly 3-year-old headphones, it has given them a new look.

When Focal originally released the Bathys in 2022, it only offered them in one silver-and-black finish — which you can see in my review of the Bathys, here. Then, in 2023, it introduced a second finish called “Dune,” which is kind of off-white.
Now, Focal has released the Bathys in a third finish that it is calling “Deep Black.” As you probably guessed, these latest headphones are all black everywhere. The company says the black shade is “synonymous with elegance and timelessness.”
