Unsurprisingly, the iconic filmmaker also had exquisite taste in audio gear.

David Lynch, the legendary filmmaker behind Mulholland DriveTwin Peaks and Blue Velvet, passed away earlier this year. And right now, fans of his work have the rare opportunity to purchase some of his personal belongings.

As first reported by DPReview, Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles has currently opened up bidding on the David Lynch Collection, which lists over 400 items once owned by the acclaimed director.

The items listed cover the gamut — everything from old-school film cameras, movie scripts, espresso machines, signed memorabilia and, of course, some taxidermy deer heads.

Lynch’s films were known for their beautiful, surreal and often dark aesthetic, so it’s not really a surprise that his camera collection (many of which are vintage) is so extensive.

But it also turns out that Lynch had a pretty awesome old-school system at home, too. Which, given that his films are known for their iconic and often haunting soundtracks, probably shouldn’t a surprise either.

One of the items that Julien’s Auctions listed in the David Lynch Collection is his Bang & Olufsen home stereo system.

The system appears to be the complete Beosystem 5500, which Bang & Olufsen manufactured between 1985 and 1987. It consists of a Beogram 5500 turntable, a Beomaster 5500 tuner/amplifier, a Beocord 5500 audio cassette recorder, a Beogram CD 50 Player, a Master Control Panel 5500, and two Penta floorstanding speakers.

The system comes with “a black and silver paneled cabinet with fold-down doors,” which houses all the components, as well as an IR receiver, power strip, and some cabling.

This Bang & Olufsen from the 1980s is the exact system that Lynch had set up in his home. And, given that it doesn’t say otherwise, we’re presuming it’s in working order. (Although, like all vintage audio equipment, it might need some love to get it back running in prime condition.)

When’s the auction?

As noted by DPReview, the David Lynch Collection officially goes up for auction on June 18, although online bidding seems to already be open.

The current bid for the 1980s Bang & Olufsen Home Stereo System is for $4,000. However, given its provenance, we’re guessing it’s going to go for well north of that.

For those looking for a similar Beosystem 5500, Reverb is currently selling one (although with different speakers) for $1,000.
